Osteoporosis “Brittle Bone Disease” is characterized by decreased bone strength resulting in an increase in the risk of bone fractures. One in two women and one in four men over the age of 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime.
GCSP has Rheumatology Physicians available in all our locations who specialize in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases in both women and men.

SCREENING FOR OSTEOPOROSIS
Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) bone density testing is a 10-minute imaging scan that takes a picture of the bone using very low-dose x-rays to help determine bone strength. DEXA testing is available only at our Schaumburg location.
Women should always inform their physician or DEXA technologist, prior to the test, if there is any possibility that they may be pregnant.
ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT OF OSTEOPOROSIS
Once a patient is determined to have a low bone mineral density, our Rheumatologists perform a thorough history and examination along with a complete laboratory work-up to assess for any secondary causes. State-of-the-art risk assessment tools are used which integrate clinical risk factors and DEXA scanning to assess the probability of fracture.
GCSP Osteoporosis Centers offer the full spectrum of osteoporosis prevention and treatment options including nutrition, supplements, exercise counseling, physical therapy, and FDA approved fracture prevention and treatment medications.
